Good morning and thank goodness it’s Friday!
My plans for the day are to get this blog post up (if you’re reading, yay I did it!) make some banana bread with the super-ripe bananas in the pantry, mop the floors, and take care of the flowers. They need some severe deadheading and water this afternoon.
My goal for yesterday was to get started with organizing the master bedroom and making it feel a bit cozier. The reason I labeled this blog with “part one” is because it’s nowhere near finished. I’m on the hunt for a new rug; the curtains need to be hung on the other wall, we have to bring up our T.V. console (the one we used in the living room in the other house), find art for above the headboard, I’m going to whitewash the bedframe lightly, and eventually find new end tables. These are the tables I’ll use in the downstairs guest bedroom. We just needed something in the meantime. All of those things will happen over the next few months or maybe a year! That is why I wanted to share an update today instead of waiting that long!
My goal for my bedroom and most of the house is to keep it light and airy. This is the one room in the house that I needed to be cozy, creamy, and inviting. I really felt that “modern cottage” theme while picking out things for this bedroom. I went with a soft blue quilted comforter for the summer months but will change that out for something warmer during fall and winter. Searching for the perfect rug has also been a struggle, but now that stores are opening up here, it may get a bit easier when I decide to go search for one.
I think it’s my dogs that have inspired my colors in the room. I love that ivory and oak theme. 😊
I’m still deciding on the lamps. That is why you’ll see two different lamps throughout these photos. The black ones are the old gold lamps that I painted, and I can’t even remember where I bought the other ones (most likely Home Goods)
The quilted white fluffy pillows and ivory waffle quilt at the foot of the bed is from PiuBelle Premier matelasse coverlet, which can be found on Amazon! I found the pillows at Homegoods, googled the brand, and found the matching quilt online. When your HG opens up in your area, it’s a great place to look for them.
The quilted blanket is from Target!
The striped pillows with tassels are from Elements by Erin Gates.
The light fixture is from Kichler. This is what I think brings the entire room together. Kichler sent us all the lights for our new home, and I cannot wait until you see each piece. The lights brought so much character to our spaces, and I love designing the room based on the lights. This light is cozy and romantic, which is what I love the bedroom to feel like.
This is the Taulbee 6 Light Oval Pendant with Weathered Zinc.
We chose very modern lights for the rest of our house, but I wanted this light to be timeless and elegant. It adds the coziest lighting no matter what time of day it is. It is for sure the statement piece this room needed.
I let Kyle hang the curtains because I have a different style of hanging things. I stick a nail in the wall and go with it. He is much better at measuring, searching for studs, and using the proper nails. I’m forbidden from hanging ANYTHING by myself in this house. 😂
The end tables are from Hobby Lobby.
We are going to put them in the downstairs room eventually, but they work in this space for now! They are not wide enough for our master bedroom, and I have my eyes on a set, but I’m waiting on a sale 🤞 My chair is an old Home Goods find. I’ve had it for so long, and it’s still one of my favorite accent pieces.
The curtains are DKNY Ivory. I didn’t want blackout because I love sunlight shining through no matter what time of day it is. The rods are black, and wood themed from Umbra.
Target now has a feature on their website where you can upload your photo and insert their products in your space. I kind of love how these paintings look above the bed! What do you think?
I can’t wait to curl up this evening with a book in my room. I feel so cozy now. ♥️
Thank you for stopping by to check out today’s home decor blog post. I’m excited to keep sharing updates on all the transformations throughout the house. And don’t worry, I’ve been filming TONS of things for future youtube videos. 😊 Have the best weekend! I’m going to try to hop on here this weekend to blog the stir fry or chicken nugget recipe. Right now, my days are a bit unorganized, so hopping on here when I can have become the new routine—I kind of love the casualness of it.
Questions for you!
- Send me a link to what you think I should put above my bed!
- The black lamps or the taupe lamps?
- How would you describe your bedroom style?
It’s coming along so well, Taralynn! You have a knack for interiors 🙂

Thanks, Charmaine!
I love the mock up of the paintings above the bed.
Taupe lamps
And my hanging style is similar to yours. If I lived alone my walls would be bare! I don’t have the patience or desire to hang things properly.
The house is coming along so beautifully
Me too! 😊 😃
& thank you so much!!
Taupe lamps! I love love love how your room is coming together! It looks awesome! I’m the same way, totally forbidden to hang anything in the house lol.
Thanks so much!!!!
😆 so funny.
Hi Taralynn!
So glad to see you are settling in to the new house (looks like the pups are more comfortable with stairs now that the runner is in there too- looks great!).
We put a wooden piece above the bed similar to what you used to have but we have a random homegoods painting that was large and only cost $25 and has hung in our bedroom for our entire marriage. When we moved into this new home I considered relocating it and my husband was like “No, thats our bedroom painting. It goes on the side of the bed.” So, apparently some things are less about decorating and more about tradition around here. So be careful what you pick out- he might get attached to temporary pieces LOL
I like the taupe lamps- that room is very soft compared to the rest of your house where the black and white statement is repeated. I enjoy that you have some soft blues to go with the whites and taupes instead in the bedroom. I think it looks warm and comfortable.
We had a cottage and have since moved into a more updated condo so I would say we have many cozy bedroom elements but when we moved here I wanted ROMANCE and COMFORT so we got the beautiful wood carving piece, window treatments that block noise and light, a new closet system that was costly but organizes everything so much better, and we got a brand new bed and pillows that were expensive. We are using hand me down furniture- drawers, bedside tables, a cheapo walmart lamp. I remind myself that over the next 10 years we can upgrade more of that stuff but that everything does not have to be perfect right now. Every 10 years things look a little better and that is ok to take it slowly and build the home instead of trying to create a finished product in 1 go.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend- I’m enjoying books, some tv binges, and jogging this weekend at home.
Jenny
Hi, Jenny!
Thank you & yes, it’s so nice seeing the dogs actually go up and down the stairs comfortably!
Haha that’s so funny. Looks like you’ll most likely have that painting for many many years 😉
I was nervous about throwing in the blue, but it’s really really growing on me!
♥️ Enjoy your relaxing weekend!!
The taupe lamps ❤️❤️❤️ And you should totally do a black and white photo blown up of the pups or of all four of you!?!?
That would be cute!
Black lamps!! It matches with the chandelier more and ties it together. 🙂
What plant is that? I love it!
My bedroom is lots of light, whites, plants, and warm 70s yellows and golds.
Hi, Laurel!
Thanks so much 😊
It’s a fiddle leaf fig (fake one!) lol
I bet your bedroom is so pretty!
1) I don’t think you need anything else, it already looks lovely as is!
2) Black lamps…I like the color of the other ones but they seem a bit too tall maybe?
3) My bedroom is contemporary, kind of a minimalist hotel vibe without any clutter
Thanks so much ♥️
no clutter is the way to go!
Hello, there!
See, now I personally like the look of the taupe lamps a little more than the black lamps. Their slenderness and detail add a little element of elegance that pairs perfectly with the feeling of the room. Either way, though, I don’t think you could go wrong 🙂
I absolutely love everything about this home and what you have done to it! The amount of natural light you have is AMAZING. In the next few months I will (hopefully) be purchasing my great-grandfather’s home which is a little outdated (by a little, I mean there are still pink fixtures in the bathroom…) and I plan on using your Cottage Story as inspiration.
Thank you for your content! <3
Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks so much, Kelsie!
I bet you’re going to make that home so gorgeous while keeping it’s a traditional charm!! ♥️ ♥️
This room turned out so beautiful! Love this post and just reading it made my morning feel so happy and bright 😉
Awww thank you, Amanda!
Well done so far l too love pastels light through the windows
. Will you be renting out a room. Where is the location.
haha! no renting yet 😂
It’s looking so lovely!
Do you plan to also have curtains on the side windows in your bedroom? X
Yup! 😊
Love the colors you chose for your bedroom. It looks very inviting!
I was wondering if your windows are treated in any way? The sunshine looks great brightening up the rooms, but when it gets hotter that sun will really heat up your house without window coverings. Have you considered shutter blinds?
Hi, Susan! 😊 we are doing pull-down shades eventually! Luckily, the sun doesn’t beat down on that side of the house!
That photo of Grumples laying on the steps at the end of the post is beautiful!
I love how you’re doing the house, I love seeing your Cottage Story Instagram posts, serious house inspo!

Thank you, Brooklyn!!!!
It’s beautiful! I love the floors – can you share the info on them?
Hi, Beth!
Thank you.
The floors are Palmetto Road – Tuscany Collection – Nola 🙂
I am absolute in love with your house 😍. I am also really Bad at hanging things and have your same technique lol behind all of my hanging are a bunch of holes and paint chips in the walls 😂
Thanks, Katie!!
Oh my goodness, it’s so beautiful!
Thank you!!!
Beautiful and cozy
Thank you! 😊
Hi Taralynn!
I have to say it again. Your home looks amazing! And the bedroom is so you! I love the colors you chose. I would go for the black lamps 🙂
My bedroom style is definitely cozy as well 🙂 We also have a lot of cushions and we put our pictures with little lights hanging above the bed 🙂
I can’t wait to see the rest of the house!
Have a nice week, kisses <3
Thank you!!! 😃
Those pictures would look nice above the bed ,
I really like the taupe lamps best.
Your room is so cozy and inviting I absolutely love the chandler . I really need to redo my room I am not a fan of it right now maybe cause it has been the same for so many years , its so dark .
Thank you!!!
So cozy! Can we talk about the rug situation? I am just wondering what you have going on by the night stand? Do you have little rugs on each side? I love it! I have never used more than one rug, so just seeing what size you have there.
I will most likely get a 9 x 12 to take up space and move the little rug to another room! 😊
amazing!
Thank you!!
Hey Taralynn, your new home is beautiful! Can we get details about your bed. If I remember right you and Kyle made it? If so, have you done a YouTube video or post so I can check it out?
Thanks a million!
Taylor
Hi, Taylor!
My dad and I made it 😊 I still need to get the step by step from him!
Beautiful! Do you mind sharing the paint used on the walls? Brand and color?! They’re the perfect calming greyge!
Hi, they’re Sherwin Williams frosty white for the walls and extra white for the trim! I will say the walls have a strange green tint to them sometimes.
Beautiful and cozy! What is the colour of your walls?
